I hear tunes, I seek out tunes that used to be everything to someone but they probably can’t listen to them now. I know there are tunes I’ve put on, I’ve seen people cry, Moving Shadow tunes, old tunes, because this music is old enough now for it to mean that. Even a single sound, they’ll hear a sound and it’ll just slay them. And you’re right, culture doesn’t seem to notice this. Where I’m from you’re more likely to be sitting around talking about a Rufige Kru or 4hero tune, how much it meant to you, than some other kind of music. I like normal life. It’s weird now, people die and they’re still on Facebook or whatever the fuck else.

AHAEHAE.

WE CALL IT TECHNO! A documentary about Germany’s early Techno scene and culture. Tells the story of a tempestuous phase in music history, the first time that pop culture was created significantly in Germany. With exclusive interviews and comprehensive, mostly unreleased film and photo archive material from the years 1988-1993!
Inspired by new sounds, new technologies and the political events of the time, the early 90s sees the emergence of a scene that euphorically celebrates the dawning of a new era.
In Berlin, Frankfurt and many other German cities, activists tinker on a new music and club culture oriented around the coordinates Techno and House.

Earcandy,
Eyecandy
A while ago I wrote about a very good drum ‘n bass compilation called Subtle Audio Vol I, which is all about taking the music back to the roots. Recently an interview with the man behind it all surfaced… which could also be interesting to people who are thinking about starting their own label.
This months interview comes courtesy of Subtle Audio head Code. He spilled the beans on the difficulties in getting the label up & running, the effect of the current economic climate on d&b, and even news of a possible Equinox EP project for Subtle Audio. If that wasn’t enough, he even put together a little mix to showcase the Subtle Audio sound.
Check.
