Robert De Niro and Al Pacino will co-star in the indie film ‘Righteous Kill’ from Nu Image’s Millennium Films and Emmett Furla Films, Daily Variety reported from the Cannes Film Festival today (Thursday). The trade publication quoted Nu Image chief Avi Lerner as saying, “This is an event in world history.” Lerner pointed out that De Niro and Pacino had appeared together only once before in a film. “They were in two scenes in ‘Heat’. In this movie, they are in the whole thing together,” he said.

In ‘Righteous Kill’ both De Niro and Al Pacino will play cops chasing a serial killer. Jon Avnet will direct and produce with a script by ‘Inside Man‘ scribe Russell Gewirtz.

Een ‘indiefilm’ met een budget van 60 miljoen dollar… Een ‘event in world history’… Hohum. ‘Misschien een leuke film’ lijkt me gepaster.

This is the best news I’ve had in years. This is a new high in modern cinema. I always thought that these 2 icons will never be in a movie again after more than a decade of branching out to new roles such as Jack Gramm and Bill Sullivan. These 2 actors are arguably the best actors of all time and as long as they’re both in a film… you can be sure that it’s a serious blockbuster! Who could forget Michael Mann’s Heat wherein the actors played opposite title roles as Detective Vincent Hanna and Criminal Mastermind Neil McCauley, and was in one scene for the very first time in their carreers. And now they will be against each other for 90 % of the film “righteous Kill”. I can’t wait for this movie! At last, someone got the balls to put these 2 legends together again. Kudos to Mr. Lerner!

Looks like first choice… It’s probably just a small role, hope he gets his brains blown out early in the picture.
