The looking glass

If you had just one chance to take a look through the looking glass.
To see the truth for one brief instant.
Would you take it?

Would you use it to look at the past, or the future?
Would you look at yourself, or look at the ones you love?
Would you share it with another? Or would you keep it a secret?

What if you were the looking glass. What if everyone was just like you.
What if their lies were your lies, their loves your loves.
What then?

Would you let aside ignorance and prejudice?
Would you stand up and fight for what you believe in?

Would you pick it up? Or would you put it down?

Epe no more*

It’s the end of an era, boys and girls. De (wat oudere) Rondeboompjes planten zichzelf midden in het bos in Doorwerth, vlakbij Arnhem. Dit gegeven markeert het einde van 21 jaar vertoeven in Epe.

Op de foto’s staan respectievelijk het nieuwe huisje en de tuin met in de verte het logeerhuisje waar wij, de kids, hoogstwaarschijnlijk ons zullen nestelen in tijden van donkerte. Het boedeltje wordt natuurlijk nog opgeknapt, geverfd en meer van dat soort blij oplapwerk.

Dus, wie gaat er mee stappen in Arnhem?

ps. Dit betekent natuurlijk niet dat ik nooit meer in ‘t Tonnetje zal komen, maar een huisje bij Arnhem opent wel wat extra mogelijkheden, no?

Waarom kan ik zo opgaan in muziek? Voornamelijk Drum & Bass en andere muziek met stevige beats of andere fijne herkenbare patronen? Waarom helpt het me concentreren als ik bezig ben met iets moeilijks? Die vragen gingen wel eens door mijn hoofd. Ik ging er van uit dat dat juist die muziek op een bepaalde manier mijn hersenen beinvloedde, dat het me helpt ontspannen, omdat ik als het ware werd meegevoerd op de ritmes en klanken.

Klinkt heel zweverig he? Eng bijna. Toch moest het wel zoiets zijn. Waarom raak ik anders snel uit concentratie als ik zonder muziek op m’n hoofd aan het werk ben, en is het fijner om de was op te hangen met een fijne deun uit de speakers?

Theeboon wees naar de lucht. “Kijk daar!”, riep hij, “een folkie geïnjecteerd met het bloed van Zappa kotst een christelijke conceptplaat van consistente kwaliteit uit!”. Bijstaanders jubelden het uit. Theeboon wendde zijn blik naar Jose Gonzales en zag dat hij lijkbleek was geworden. “Nice. Wonderboy to the rescue.”, dacht hij.
